FAM deny suspending Mohd Abu Bakar

KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has denied news reports that FA of Sarawak (FAS) deputy president Mohd Abu Bakar Marzuki has been suspended eight months and fined RM8,000 for making adverse comments to the media.

In a statement here yesterday, FAM said its disciplinary committee had issued Mohd Abu Bakar a show cause letter over the matter and that the latter had until noon on Monday (May 7) to furnish a reply.

Prior to this, FAM had imposed fines totalling RM75,500 on FAS because of unruly behavior by fans at Stadium Negeri in Kuching during Sarawak’s matches against Singapore’s Lions XII team and Kelantan on March 17 and April 7 respectively.

Dissatisfied with the action by FAM, Sarawak football fans on Friday launched a website to petiton FAS to pull out of FAM, the football governing  body in the country.

In KUCHING, FAS president Datuk Sudarsono Osman urged Sarawak football fans to be patient as the association would be making appeals over the punishment handed down by FAM.

He said Sarawak was doing very well in the Super League this year and that the association wanted the state to continue its fine run.

Diplomacy would be the best way to resolve issue FAS had with FAM and no hsaty action should be taken, he told a press conference here.

“Football is a crazy game… more than half the space in the sports pages are devoted to football. I admit fans can be rather fanatical but please be rest asssured that FAS has diplomatic ways to resolve all problems,” he said. — Bernama
